Hal effect POT replacement

I purchased a third party upgrade for my high-end joystick. One of the key parts is a Hal-Effect replacement Potentiometer. This is a small rotery pot but it has NO mfg markings. While the post can rotate freely, I think that effective measurements are done in a 90deg arc. There are no other components in the kit (Active or Pasive) just the mechanical linkeges to translate the original movement to the 90deg movement. I have already installed this and don't want to disasemble it to do more testing if I don't have to.
I have done some searches at places like Mouser but I can not find anything like this. Usually, this means that I am just not looking right. Has anyone seen something like this?

thanks for the help. I was aware of the positition sensors that you describe. . I am not going to build a joystick (already have that) but I· am hoping to find a source for a completely self contained implementation of a position sensor that it has a rotory input and mounts like a POT.
thx
