Problem with REED relay

I am using a stamp to control a device using a reed relay. The problem I'm having is after a few cycles the relay stays on regardless on the signal from the stamp. The relay I'm using is 5v rated at 500ma. The load current of my device is about 175ma.
The funny thing is I can hear the relay physically cycling but the device hooked up to it still stays on?
I don't know much about the characteristics of a reed relay... Any help would be most appreciated!

What kinda of load?

Are you welding the contacs together ??

Can you see the contacts?

Check the "On" ·resistance
