Now that Propeller can do Ethernet with the ENC28J60, how about interfacing to wifi now?
Any similar IC we can use to connect to Wifi?

Hi William:

Not aware of a specific chip, but I bought a DPAC WiFi module that can attach via UART - haven't played with it yet though :-(

Looks good James!· They sell·the WiReach·nano module·at Mouser for $59...

I have a bunch of SDIO wifi cards that I would love to figure out how to make work, but it looks like I'll have to decompile some ARM driver code to do it...

I will help. The driver code is easier than you think.

Also, Mouser is just down the road from my location in Austin.

There are linux drivers for the SD wifi cards, aren't there? That would at least be a starting place. I too would really like to find some way to get Wifi on the prop. There appears to be some solutions out there for compactflash wifi adapters for PICs (perhaps even a book?) but SD would be just so much simpler to interface.

I just came across the 'UniFi' chip series from CSR: http://www.csr.com/products/unifirange.htm

DigiKey carries them (and they are decently cheap):
search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=UF1050B-IC-ECT-ND

I'm having trouble finding an actual datasheet for this thing, though.

I am still waiting for Rayman's mail to arrive. I really can't start until I receive the actual device. I cannot tell you how many wild goose chases that I have been on that actually having the physical device in my hands would obviate.

WiReach Nano is the card that I am expecting. Carefully read the Mouser documentation link that they provide. A clear understanding of what to expect from this device should follow.

If not this chip, others are out there. I intend to make PropFI a reality, one way or another.

Well. This one looks easy. Some how I thought you were going to solve the SDcard WiFi puzzle. Guess it doesn't matter since this one has SDIO and is relatively cheap at $60.

I received your mail today. I was expecting the WiReach Nano module, not SDIO stuff. I specifically referred to the WiReach Nano earlier in this thread yeah.gif .
Well, I understand your reticence about this project now. I am going to order the WiReach module Wednesday. wink.gif

I ordered one of these from Mouser yesterday. It arrived a few minutes ago. What I missed when ordering it was that it uses a special connector that appears to be surface mount only:

Mouser Part #: 538-52991-0308
Manufacturer Part #: 52991-0308
Manufacturer: Molex
Description: SlimStack Connectors 30 Ckt Vert. Recept 0.5mm SMT Dual-Row

It also needs an external antenna:

iW-CAB-150
Miniature coaxial w/ pigtail cable. UFL-SMA connectors. 150mm length.
iW-ANT2-BL
2.4GHz WiFi antenna, 2.0dBi, 50Ω, omni-directional, 1/4 wavelength dipole configuration

The antenna and cable adds another $15 to the cost, and I am not sure what to do about the connector. Does anyone know of a solution to connect this board to a propeller? It looks like a great part, but if we cannot connect it in a reasonable way, it is worthless.

A #22 gauge wire antenna will suffice for testing. Xbee modules use this scheme. Calculate the length from a quarter-wavelength formula.

As for the connector, I'll try to locate an alternative solution.

This is why I prefer to have the physical object in hand. Spec sheets are flat in their emphasis.

Hang in there! Help is on the way smile.gif

Thanks, but mine are out for delivery right now (If I ordered the right ones yesterday) They should be here before 6pm.

The bad thing about living in Texas is you have to pay sales tax to Mouser.
The good thing is you only have to pay for UPS Ground rates to get overnight delivery! :)

I ordered:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
ORDERED STOCK NUMBER SHIPPED PRICE EXTENDED
-----------------------------------------------------------------
2 538-52991-0308 2 1.870 3.74
Molex SlimStack Conn
30 Ckt Vert. Recept

1 890-IW-ANT2-BL 1 6.500 6.50
Connect One Antennas
WiFi ANT W/SMA CONN-

1 890-IW-CAB-150 1 9.000 9.00
Connect One Accessor
Miniature coaxial

They just arrived. 538-52991-0308 is the correct connector.
It is going to take some mighty fine soldering to attach it though!

Here are a couple of pictures. A bit grainy since my phone does not do shots that small very well. The mating connector is attached on both, and the second picture shows the extra connector I ordered in its plastic case.
