Motor mount/wheel kit question

· Hello....I need to make a robotic platform that is fairly quiet.· I was wondering how loud the·motor mount/wheel·kit is.· Is it about like a windshield wiper motor?· How does the caster wheel kit sound?··Is it manufactured such that·it swivels quietly?· I realize this might be hard to describe.

Thanks,
Norm C.

I think with most motors you'll get some sound feedback, especially when you start to stall them. I suppose you've thought about putting soft stuff all around the motor? Or, in more recent scientific research, a plate with holes punched in it?

    Hello Norm,

Very quiet and smooth. Everybody is surprised by the mellow hum made·emitted by·this product. It's not like a wiper motor, perhaps because it is a window door motor. The rear caster wheel kit makes no noticeable noise either.

You have no risk. Buy the kit, put it together and try it out. If you are not satisfied for any reason simply return it back to Parallax assembled and I'll use it on my next robot. We'll provide a full refund as well as your shipping costs.

This particular product is a great value for the price and it's manufactured right here in·Rocklin, CA, USA.

Can the motor mount/wheel plus one caster take the weight of a full grown man? (about 80kg)
    and still move about smoothly?

    William,

During a demonstration in our office the engineer who designed the set of products (Kevin) "rode" the Motor Mount and Wheel Kit across the room. It was using off-the-shelf steel casters. Our caster is a bit lighter and I imagine it would easily accommodate about 10 kg of weight on it alone. For 80 kg you should really be looking at 24V electric wheelchair or electric scooter components.

    · Ken, thank you for answering my question.· If I can use this set-up, it will save me a lot of mechanical work.· SRLM, thanks for your suggestion.· The motor mount wheel kit is so easy to mount, I would probably try that first.· If further sound reduction is required, that would certainly be worth considering.

    Thanks,

    Norm
