MLX90614 interface to PICAXE

Hello. I'm curious if anyone here has any experience interfacing the MLX90614 infrared temperature sensor to a PICAXE (08M). I have set things up and verified that my PICAXE is transmitting a "0x0, !ID, 0x0", but the MLX doesn't respond. I've also tried other slave addresses that I believe correspond to the defaults, but I've read that all devices will respond to 0x0.

Does the serial interface with the MLX require "T" baud settings and therefore a MAX232 chip? Right now I am using N2400 with the simple resistor network.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Can't help you particularly with a PICAXE. This is a support forum for the Parallax Stamps, SX, and Propeller. The PICAXE is a completely different beast although it's sold as a Stamp replacement. Try the PICAXE's manufacturer's website for their support forums.

    Mike:
I really respect you and you've helped me a ton in the past but... I have to disagree with you this one time.

The MLX90614 is a Parallax product, and according to my understanding of the forum rules, this is the proper place to ask questions about it.

Mike's pretty much right though... PICAXE is a competitor to Parallax's primary product lines... so its doubtful you'll get a response here.

Okay then, should I be able to interface the MLX to a standard PC serial port? I'm not quite clear on how to interface it to a PC since there are separate Rx/Tx lines for the PC serial port...

Any other thoughts on this? I'm starting to be concerned that maybe the MLX module I have is defective. Does it expect 0V/5V voltage swings for serial communication? I'm doing a simple reset, then sending 0x0, "!ID", 0x5A, but it never responds. I also tried using the slave address of 0x00 (and a few others), but again, nothing.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately the temp sensors are a fairly new product and they haven't worked into the general community yet like the Ping and PIR and such have... So only a few of us have them.

Your best bet would be deleting this thread and posting in the new Sensors forum. There are so few posts there that it'll stand out like a sore thumb :)
