    Attached is a part of the PIC 16 instruction set.
    The PIC architecture is one of the oldest, so there must be more than one history....

    Microchip was founded in 1989. That makes it twenty years old. That makes the PICs look brand spanking new from my end of the time telescope[noparse]:)[/noparse]

    Certainly nowhere near one of the oldest.

    Microchip was formed from a group that stemmed from a semiconductor division of General Instruments. The Design was made by General Instruments back at 1975. And I was already on this world then, but knew not much about Microcontrollers [noparse];)[/noparse]

    I was having a bit of trouble finding any history of Microchip. But still quite youthful as computer architectures go.
