Prop Plug and BS2

Prop Plug and Stamp
Has anyone used the Prop Plug to program the BS2? The information on the Parallax site suggests that it can be used for that purpose. The four outputs, VSS, RES,TX,RX are clearly labeled. Would the connections to the BS2 be the following?
VSS = Pin4 (VSS)
TX = Pin2 (RX)
RX = Pin1 (TX)
RES = Pin4 (ATN)

Thanks,
MikeS

    The Prop Plug/Clip outputs are at 3.3 volts, the otherwise identical USB2SER device outputs at 5 volts. I guess the question is whether the Basic Stamps can be programmed with 3.3 volts and I don't know the answer to that. Maybe one of the forum experts will chime in or someone from Parallax will answer when they get back to work on Monday.

    No, it can't be used directly without some intervening inverters. The BS2 expects and provides inverted serial I/O signals. The Prop Plug expects and provides non-inverted signals. The FT232R in the Prop Plug can, however, be reprogrammed via FTDI's MPROG program to change the pin polarity. But, if you're also using it with a Propeller, it would be a nusiance to keep switching it back and forth. In any event, you would still not be able to use the BS2's ATN pin, since the Prop Plug's /RST line cannot source current. It could, however be connected to the BS2's /RES pin instead.

    What the Prop Plug can be used for is programming an OEM BASIC Stamp configured as shown in the following schematics. I hope this helps. Take care.

    Phil and Chris. Your replies confirmed my suspicions.

    Thanks for your input.

    Here's how to use inverting circuitry (with common components) to program the BS2 with the Prop Plug:
