You know how the tank treads Parallax sells right?
I just Want to know the shape the Boe-Bot Tank Metal and the exact measurements (Metric System) of each side, length, width, and angles of the corners.
Just In case that when I buy it, and it breaks or Deforms, I can buy the sheet metal required and use that.
Well, If I can find a Product that is similar to the tank tread kit, I could install that...

If you buy it, why do you need others to measure it for you?

Let me guess... Your going to make your own with the Tamiya tank tread kit and need to know the measurements for the other parts?

It's not illegal to talk about other products ya know :P

    Exsynn,

If you are willing to do the work (and a little thinking)·- You should be able to figure it out for youself from this document - http://www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Downloads/docs/prod/robo/28106-TankTreadsKit-v2.0.pdf
and the attached photo. Both of these are available on Parallax's site.

Of course, by the time you do the work, get the aluminum, cut it out (especially the servo holes!), get the hardware and other parts, you will most probably find that $34.99 is not·very expensive.

Yes Whit your right unless you already have a well stock of parts like most of us here that builds robots and make mods then the cost really does not matter but the Tyama dozer kit alone cost $25 bucks just for that, so yes buying the kit will make life easier for those just getting started.

Yes Whit, There is always time to find parts in our stock piles ha ha, but what I don't understand is why all the questions about how large, deg of angle, spacing between the rollers , ect..... on this thread. Parallax hides nothing when it comes to building robots and adding mod kits. If these newbees will just do a little research or just print out the pictures and use a ruler, then you have all the information right there! Plus the extensive research Parallax has done in their books that are FREE is worth more to me than the weight in Gold!

I DO understand when someone has a programming issue and needs that extra set of eyes (or Eye in my case as you know already Whit, ha ha) or knowledge to help them along to complete their project (even I need that from time to time) but still if you study right and follow the books and DO the projects you will master the programming side of the Stamps.
LOOP : LOOP 'sorry I forgot I was just writing and not programming. he he

Sorry for ranting about that subject but I just had to vent out. So please guys/gals don't clutter up the forums with these trivial questions like this unless you have done all you can on your side then feel free to ask away and tell us what you have done on your side so we don't have to backtrack your steps or do YOUR HOMEWORK for you.

OK I'm done, "I'm all calm now and the heart rate is now down"

    Jax

ps. Thanks Parallax for everything you all do for us and keep up the great work and products.

END ' darn did it again!

Glad you got a good laugh out of the post, I just had to get that off my chest.. Whit knows I'm a cut up in the forums from time to time, but hey we're here to have fun and learn at the same time.

    Jax,

Maybe those missing parts are in the soap box your standing on....turn.gif

I do have to second that Parallax gives almost everything away in PDFs and online documentation. It is a gold mine.

    lol 34.99 + shipping?
I found a tamiya tank tread kit for AUD17.99 at Jaycar electronics. (Where ever that is you might say.)
I estimate that it is around USD14.99
and the Tank metal, the screws (incompatible with Parallax products. except spacers and holes), etc.

Robot Marketplace has it for $8.79 USD... but that's not the point.

The shafts that come with the kit don't space the wheels apart far enough for you to hook them to a BOE.
You'd have to create your own shafts, or somehow cut the metal shafts in half and bolt them on... or something.

I ended up giving up figuring out how to do it and used a platform above the tracks to build my robot on.
    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=768189

If you've got something you can use to mount the treads onto the size of your boebot, and you've got something to use as shafts for the treads, and you've got the
equipment to saw/mill/machine the proper parts... great! I like the Tamiya kit... I've had many problems with it, but you can't beat the price.

Searching for the specs on this tread kit, I read through all the smart-alec comments here but didn't find any specs.

Does anyone know the length? Is it under 10 cm? I'm wondering if it would be legal in a sumobot contest.

    Thanks.

I made a chassis just to try out a few different configurations (wood because it's easy to cut)
    http://twichel.com/projects/plowboy/plowbot.asp
I'll post a template of the wood cuts if anyone wants to see/use them.

This is still a first generation platform. The Board of education and a plow blade should go on this week.
