Using Parallax products and start a home drilling machine...

Hi,

Yes, I want to use my drilling machine
(http://www.heavymachineryinfo.com/content_images/drill_sml.jpg )

and draw over a piece of wood something like letters.

I thought that using the PC to move servos or steppers could
be great.

Any idea ??? where can I find information
about software and controllers.

Thanks, Mark.

You need an X-Y table, controlled by steppers or servos.

    Yes,

I can use and X-Y table but my problem is how can I "tell"
to the X-Y table that I need ( for example) the letter "M" or the letter "R" over
    the piece of wood.

    An idea ?

You'll have to figure out what combination of x movement and y movement will make a particular letter, then store all the letters/designs into your program. If you make them measurements relative (like, go 12 units left) instead of absolute (x=24 units) then you can string together characters to form a string.

    Hi,

I was thinking about a pair of circles or basic drawings.

Perhaps it is too difficult for a Stamp and I need something like the
USB serial servo or the stepper motor control from Parallax with a direct
    connection to the PC.

Do you know something like that?

    Thanks, Mark

The difficult part is figuring out how you are going to represent a character or letter so that you can directly translate it into a movement. I suspect that once you have that figured out, you can quite quite simply translate it into code. The BS2 would probably work if you had some sort of external storage for the data.

You might want to check this guy's site out. Lots of information about building your own CNC and such.

I had bought some of his plans a couple of years ago and before I posted, I did go to see if the website was still there, clicked on a couple of links and thought it was OK to post the link. I apologize for not clicking though everything - since I wasn't going to order anything I didn't think to go to the order page.

Even so, there is helpful information still on his site if you're thinking about building your own cheap CNC.

I didn't mean to sound negative, I found some plans I liked and they were cheap. When I tried to order them, I reailized the site was no longer active.
