EmbeddedBlue Bluetooth interface with cell phone for voice redording

A Little History, so you understand my experience and knowledge base...

It has been about 7 years since I worked with the BS2 or any other Parallax product. Life has taken me in to software experimentation and I haven't really played with hardware for a long time. Therefore I am a newbie to this, however I have dusted off my BS2 and board of education and have been experimenting for about a week now, just refreshing my memory.

My question is this, can the EmbeddedBlue device communicate with my phone, (any model, I am about to upgrade so if I need a specific type of phone I can get it), and output the audio of a on going call to a 1/8" phone plug so that I can plug it in to a digital voice recorder or a computer mic port. Again I want to record an ON GOING call, I do not want to limit myself to setting up the device before a call or having to use a device to place the call, if it cold do this without interrupting the mic and speaker on the phone that wold be great however if I need a external ear bud and mic then that is fine.

My search of the forum and my Google Fu didn't turn up anything that answered my questions.

Thank-you for your time.
James

I don't know about the embeddedblue device, but I doubt your phone will be able to connect to a bluetooth audio device AND allow you to use the mic/speaker on the phone itself.

No. The EmbeddedBlue device cannot do what you want. Bluetooth provides a variety of protocols to carry information over a Bluetooth wireless link. Most devices only provide one or a few of these protocols. There's one that provides a wireless serial link that's intended to replace an ordinary RS232 serial connection, usually for a wireless telephone modem. That's what the EmbeddedBlue supports. There's another protocol for carrying bidirectional monaural audio that's used for wireless headsets. There's a protocol for carrying unidirectional stereo audio that's used for wireless stereo speakers and wireless stereo headphones. There's another protocol for providing for a serial printer with feedback for "out of paper" and similar status information. The EmbeddedBlue supports none of these.

Look at the Wikipedia article on Bluetooth for some descriptions of the various layers of Bluetooth and how they're used.

Mike, I can not thank you enough, you have saved me hours of research and possible frustration.

I will do my homework and if I find a system that will work then I will post the results. If I don't then I guess I can always buy an ear bud and splice in some jacks...

    Again thans,
    James
