An interesting find... Wireless BS2/SX/Prop programming?

I was browsing randomly on the 'net and ran accross something interesting and
it reminded me of a post in the suggested new products thread.

If I'm reading this right... this is a perfect solution to wirelessly control and
program parallax products.

Way too expensive for me to ever get though.

Yes, they would work. Yes, they are overpriced but that's because they are meant for industrial applications and may be considered "more rugged". The lack of a cheaper, hobbyist version of this·has been a pet peeve of mine for a while. I am hoping that a·wireless equivelant of the USB to Serial adapter comes out of my current Cypres CyFi project.

Actually, this probably won't work. The main issue is timing. Both the Stamp and the Propeller have tight timing constraints in their download protocols. Any kind of delay will cause a download to fail. Bluetooth (and other wireless protocols) have to assemble data into packets on one end and disassemble the data on the other end so the data arrives in spurts. The average speed is fast enough, but the pauses between the spurts cause the download to fail.

I have seen the Xbee units from Sparkfun www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8695
Will these work for the Stamp units?

Timing is a concern, but theoretically shouldn't be a factor. The speed of the Cypress compensates for the assembling and dis-assembling of the data into the SPI format and the encoded RF format. However, if the stamp or propeller have issues with timing that exact, I may still be stuck with my pet peeve......

I picked up a couple of serial to Long-range Bluetooth radio devices. I have to say I wasn't impressed....the biggest problem is that they have to run their own software to give you a "virtual" serial port.
On one machine, I had a dirty install of windows that would cause it to flake out and not record data (radio's were used to receive datalogger info, not to program anything).

I'm now using DIGI XT09 radio's. Work great....I'm able to program the datalogger remotely. I'm sure if I played with the radio settings (timing/packet sizes) I might be able to get it to program a stamp remotely....however, that's not my application at the moment.

    Cheers
