Longer Jumper Wires.

I get this really annoying problem which has been bugging me ever since I bought a new bread board.
What is needed to make your own trans-breadboard 10" Jumper wire?
I don't like normal wires which have multiple wires inside because when you insert them, they split ends.
It is pretty annoying actually, and frustrating too.
I'm sure that if Parallax distributes 10" jumper wires.
I'd be more than happy to buy them online or from a distributor.

Just use 22 gage solid stran wire. Radio Shack sells this in black, red, and green. I never use prepared jumper wires because I cut my own and its a lot cheaper that way as well but you don't get all the pretty colors like that a real big deal to me.

I use the exact same wire as GWJax... cept I also have 24 gauge.

If you have nothing but stranded wire, you can always tin the leads by stripping it, then twisting it tight and heating it with your soldering iron then applying JUST enough solder to coat the wire.

Make sure the wire gets good and hot ahead of time so you don't have solder end up in globs sticking out on all sides.

Oh I forgot I do the same as Ugha does as well when I want a different color that is stranded and just tin the tips but this is done with 24 gauge wire though because 22 gauge tinned will spread out the bread board connectors in time and cause havoc on your circuit. I found that out the hard way hehe :)

Maybe they don't use AWG (American Wire Gauge) in Australia.· I think they've cast their lot with the french.· Metric/SI, just have to be different.· Anybody know if there's a metric wire gauge or do they use AWG anyway?

Post Edit -- Ron Nollett (OzStamp) is the Parallax rep there, but he's in Victoria.

No, Allen. In Australia we use Australian stuff, not french.

I use ethernet cable. Use a utility knife to open it up and you will find lots of jumper wires inside.

It seems that every time we get close to the end of a roll at work, we open a new one, so there are always several almost finished rolls laying around.

Most ethernet cable you have lying around is most likely stranded so you may have to tin the leads to get it into your breadboard.

This reminds me that my dad installs phone systems for a living and almost always has some scrap cat5 wire around.

Phone line "twisted pair" wire works well also, plus it's solid wire.

Yes it does we have a running joke in the family that he could write a book about 101 uses for the phone wire.
