    Barbz,

The "No Stamps Found" error message could be caused by a low battery. If that does not solve the problem please supply a few more details that will allow us to troubleshoot your problem.

I have a fresh set of batteries installed into each sumobot.

I have just assembled the robots, and tried connecting

them to my computer using a serial to USB cable.

I am supposed to align my servo motors using the Basic Stamp Editor v. 2.4.2

    Nothing seems to work.

Which cable (manufacturer) and have you loaded the drivers before connecting the cable?

This sounds like the USB-Serial problem that many have experienced. Try using the instructions at:

I purchased the cable at a store called Computer Avenue.

It is a USB to RS232 cable.

I installed drivers that came with the cable, and I also

downloaded the drivers from Parallax web site.

Unfortunetly, the communications protocol for the basic stams is not supported by many USB-RS232 adaptors and I think you may have found one. You need to get an adaptor based on the FTDI chip to support the programming protocol.

I have heard that some USB to Serial cables don't work with the Stamps.

I don't Know about your cable but it sounds like a likely candidate for issues.

I assume you have the port listed in your program from the Directive menu.

Have you tried to ID the ports?

I have tried to ID the Ports, and it does seem to recognize them.
I can connect to any USB port, but I cannot seem to download files
    from Parallax.

Does you CPU have a serial port or do you have to use a USB port.

I found a Usb to Serial cable that works with stamps from Sewell Part #SW-1301 About $13.00 plus shipping.

Parallax probably has one that works also. I know that doesn't help you out right now but that is where I would start.

I have USB ports, and I have tried all of them to see
    what was going on.

As others have mentioned, not all USB to serial adapters work with the Stamps. The Stamps have to have the DTR (data terminal ready) signal to be able to be identified and programmed and some inexpensive (cheap!) USB to serial adapters don't include this in the signal lines that they implement properly. Parallax uses a chip from FTDI to make their adapters and FTDI sells several adapters themselves and all of them seem to work. I've also had success with Keyspan's High Speed Serial Adapter.

The default USB to serial adapter driver in Windows doesn't seem to handle DTR properly. You really do need to install the "full service" driver from the adapter's manufacturer to get DTR to work and don't be surprised if many adapters don't work for you. A lot of them just implement the transmit and receive data lines and the RTS and CTS control lines and leave off DTR and DSR.

Take a look at the USB to serial converter from Parallax part#28030. It will cure all of Your Problems.
    cost is around $15 BUCKS

I use this all the time, And it works great.
