Using Propeller Tool In Vista

Hello, I'm trying to use the Propeller IDE on my sons laptop which is running on Vista. I've never had any troubles on my old desktop which runs on XP.

The tool can not find the hard ware.

It is possible I haven't installed the drivers for the USB - but which drivers and how to install? (I set-up the XP without any difficulty).

Any suggestions?

Eric

Well I have never had problems with finding hardware in vista.

However the propeller tool does exit 50% of the time in vista leaving a copy of itself that uses 50% of my computers power in the memory for some reason. (and I can relaunch it again having two propeller exes in the memory - one using about 50% of my computers power). I've had to kill the exe personally as I cannot acess from anywhere but task manager.

Also, I get random weird cannot read acess violation errors every now and then (well, alot... really) when I open multiple files.

    Maybe its vista itself?

And, try installing the vista usb drivers. You can get them from parallax's web site.

    Well - I think you're right.

Just tried the same prop back on the old XP and fine.

Went back to vista laptop - and it worked. No idea why? Dicky connection - I'm really not sure. But I'm up and working so maybe not so bad.

The trouble with vista is that you git little option when you buy a new PC (in this case a laptop). Apparently you can only get Windows operating systems when you buy hardware - I bought XP once, it came with a piece of rubber attached to the letter saying this was the hardware (if I was asked!) Mad world.

I usus vista and even though I never have a problem finding the propeller hardware sometimes it doesn't find my phone right. which I use to as a usb thumb drive. And i have to restart my computer to get it to read it right.

Hmm! I think it may have been a dicky USB cable (right). Thanks for your feedback.

I haven't had issues with the Tool on Vista, it could be the USB cable, it could also be that you didn't intall the program using administrator privleges which can interfere with the USB driver installation.

I have it installed on Vista 64 bit and it hangs on the splash screen when I start up the tool.· Anyone else using 64 bit vista?

I restarted a couple times, but it still hangs (I let it sit for 20 mins and it was still on the splash screen).

    Jared,

I'm using Vista 64 bit and the only problem I have really experienced is that sometimes (randomly, I think) the Function keys (F10 & F11) for loading the program to the Propeller quit working. I can still Load using the menus. Exiting the Prop Tool and restarting takes care of it.

I also had the splash screen hang. Had to crash out and retry. It took a couple of goes. I think vista and the Tool require the BRS treatment on a regular basis.

Having set up a laptop (2.1GHz core2duo cpu) for someone I have decided to hold off on buying a new laptop because they all come with vista. It took most of the day for it to finish the setup, and then I had to install his office software. Utterly ridiculous crappy bloatware that sucks up cpu cycles and makes the system crawl.

I think it should have been called Wishta, as in I wish ta god they would have fixed the few flaws in XP instead.

PS - Laptop manufacturers, ARE YOU LISTENING. How about selling a laptop with no operating system for a few bucks less so I have the freedom to choose the operating system I want. I know I can reformat or partition the hard drive and install whatever I want, but I hate the very idea of having any part of what I paid going to microsoft for such absolute Smile.
