Making a propeller microcomputer - need suggestions on where to buy parts and w

Hey guys,

I've moving my project developement to the next level and I'm going to start building a pcb board. I havently fully finished protyping yet but the but the blocks·I plan to use in my design have already been used by parallax and others so I think I'll be fine.

Now, I have the free version of eagle cad, so I can build a board of that's 3 x 4 inches I think (my school also may have other·versions of other software to use... However·I do not know yet).

What I want to get on the board are:

an audio out/in connector

a ps2 keyboard/mouse connector

a vga connector

a serial port

a SD card holder

and various other things...

I don't know if·I'll have acess to any machines to build the board·so I think I want to stay with through hole electronics. I can find all the ICs I want to use but I don't know where to·find the proper types of connectors... (as they are not·named anything that would imply what their use would be in the english language.)

Having eagle files for the parts will help out as I think I could find store for them then....But I don't have those.

So if anyone could reconmend connectors to use and where I could get the eagle files for them it would be greatly appreciated. Also, connectors that preform multiples of the function aboard would be better. Like the giant vga/ps2/mouse connector parallax has on their protoboard.

Thanks,

Surface mount components can easily be soldered by hand with a pair of tweezers, a steady hand, and some practice. Even BGA can be done by hand but you need a heat gun for those. I only get surface mount now unless there is none available.

If you all would like to know, I'm building a system dedicated to make developement with the propeller chip 100% easier and far faster. This includes new software and hardware tools which may make some of you old timers ( no offense) gasp at the simplicity.

Input would be appreciated, as I would like to cram the most stuff into the smallest possible space.

    Thank you,

The combo vga/ps2 connector used on the protoboard is a Norcomp 999 connector, this is enough information to find it on digikey. It's not cheap unless you buy it in large quantities, even then it's still $4.60/unit. Everything else is also availible from there or other major suppliers.

It seems easier to mount a qfp than drill 40 holes to me. If you use a few 1206 size 0 ohm jumpers you can do a lot on a single sided board and have very few holes to drill.

Kye, it's already increadibly easy to program with the propeller :) but I'm be curious to see what you come up with to make it easier and faster than it already is :)

I'll be posting more information about it later in the coming months.

Its not going to be as good as I want it right now because I will need the propeller two for that but it will be pretty sweet.

I can't really fully give details about it except that I'm working with a few other people developing a new compiler and complete propeller OS/Interpreter that should be faster and easier to us than spin.

And I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel to make some new type of langauge again that will suffer the same problem as all other languages. The compiler will be a strike apart from current tools, you'll like it however.

    ...

So I should just search digikey for these connectors? Do they have eagle files aviable for them?

digikey does not have the files but you can get pachages from eagles site as well as make your own from the datasheet
