Caterpillar automated start

I have programmed a BS2 to collect information from my Cat loader as to make an automated/remote start.· I am connecting an input lead to P0 of my BS2 that returns a signal (high) if the key is turned to the on position.· Such action will terminate the·program.··The lead runs through an L7805 to step the voltage·down, do I need to·put a resistor in series to limit the current·to P0 as well?· Additionally do I need a resistor connected in parallel to Vss to completely sink·P0 when no signal is present?

Yes,· you will need to use a pull-down resistor, like a 10K·ohm for this project.· You want to make sure the the current doesn't exceed 25mA on the input.
