COM Problem

My BS has never had any problem operating before, but now when I connect it and try to run a program or just identify the board (using a serial cable), it registers COM 1, but tries to scan the other ports and locks up. I have the newest stamp editor on my comp. What com ports does the program need access to?
I have a wireless internet card that takes up a few ports and an arduino board running on com 16 through USB.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

try adding a port setting to your code..
