usb problems

I am having problems with the usb interface. It will work either intermittantly on some applications,
o.k. on others. Any body got any ideas. HP Paviillion zv6000 running on XP

    Make sure you have the latest windows XP driver, and that no other software has used the usb/comm port since bootup. Also try removing and reloading the driver unless there is a newer one available. In that case remove the old one and install the new one.
