Connecting to Basic STAMP

I have a radio shack USB to RS232 cable. I have installed the driver and it shows everything is connected. I have connected to the Board of Education. When I go to identify it shows that the Radio Shack RS232 cable is present at Com port 8. The port is set at 9600, 8 bits, parity none. I get no response back from the STAMP. When I try to run any program it detects no STAMP. I am running Basic STAMP editor 2.4.2. I have a homework board and I get the same results.·Can anyone give me a clue? I have checked batteries hit reset buttons???

This is one of the most commonly discussed problems here in the forums. There was a thread that specifically mentioned the Radio Shack adapter as not being compatible. What I keep hearing is that many adapters don't properly implement the DTR handshake·lines which are required by the Stamp (and Propeller). I'm sorry I can't locate the specific thread but it was fairly recent.

Grady - Regarding the Board of Education - which version do you have? If you have the serial version you may be able to solve your problem·by setting the·DTR Enable line to a TTL low by adding a 1K resistor to ground.
