Trying to interface a serial RFID scanner with serial port

Hello,

I am trying to interface the parallax RFID reader with an HCS12 and so far I have had no success... I am trying to interface it now with my com 1 port and MatLab to see what the signal looks like but again, I have had no success. Could anyone give me some guidance?

I have connected the "Sout" pin to pin 2 of the serial port and ground to pin 5. I have read the instructions on the matlab website but I'm getting nowhere. I get nothing in matlab
