An article in scientific american discussed sending data fro a drift buoy via packet radio. Does anyone knoe about having a BS2 hooked to the packet radio?

I haven't personally done it, but I have an old HealthKit amateur radio packet modem that would work just fine with a Stamp. The Basic Stamp Manual shows how to use a resistor in each input lead to the Stamp in the chapters on the SERIN and SEROUT statements for RS232 compatibility. If the particular packet modem you might want to use won't work with this non-standard RS232 interface, you can always use a MAX232 to convert the voltage levels of the Stamp to RS232 for the packet modem.

Ken did a demo where he used a pair of BS2s, a pair of modems, and a pair of radios to send data. I'm not a radio expert so it might not be packet radio, but you may want to have look at it. Google for BS2 radio license and it should show up.
