Hi,

Does anyone know of an a Linear CCD array that is simple to
use and low cost. Something entirely digital would be nice, without
the need for 4 different supplies.

SPI or I2C would be great

    I have a board in the oven for Parallax that uses the TAOS TSL1401. This is a 128-pixel CMOS linear array. Is that enough pixels? Its output is an analog voltage. Their TSL3301 (102 pixels) is entirely digital and uses an isosynchronous serial interface. They have an SX-based EVM for this chip. Each sensor requires only a single voltage and will run from 3.3V. They also have other sensor arrays besides these two — some with more pixels.

    Attached is a photo of the upcoming TSL1401-DB mounted on a MoBoStamp-pe. It will also be compatible with future Propeller boards that are in the works.

    Very cool, it can run on a 3.3 volt supply.

    It's for a propeller based industrial sensor.

    No price has been set yet, and it would be inapproprate for me to speculate what it might be.

    That chip looks like it could be paired with a lens, filter, and a point light source (laser, or distant LED) for range-finding. Adjust focus until highest/narrowest bell curve.

    I've done that for measuring the heights of objects on a conveyor. You need a laser line source perpendicular to the sensor's axis, though, to ensure that it's included in the field of view. Otherwise, aming it gets impossibly tricky.

    Just looked up the price at mouser.com. Search for taos and select Optical Detectors and Sensors. In the list look for linear detectors. They have quite a few from less EUR 5.90 up EUR 67.50 Different resolutions, different pixel sizes. Looks very attractive!
