Bluetooth Possibilities

Hi,

I need to ask about the Embedded Blue module.

If I use the Embedded Blue module together with the Basic Stamp 2,
can I use any bluetooth handphone to directly communicate with the board to switch on and off a few leds without any programming on the handphone side?

Thanks.

What's wrong with the Parallax website now?
I can't view any products in the store.
All I see now is "DotNetDuke Error". confused.gif

are you asking if you can use voice commands, to turn on and off leds? if so yes, but you couldn't do it directly, you would need something to process the speech, and then send commands via bluetooth to another processor to receive commands and control the lights

    or

are you asking if you can control LEDs by pressing buttons on your Bluetooth headphones? it might be possible, but you would still need a processor to interpret the commands and control the leds.

Just like with the internet, there are a variety of protocols on Bluetooth and the digital audio protocol used for headsets is one of them. The Embedded Blue adapter only speaks the "wired serial line replacement" protocol, so you can't use it the way you would like.

Regarding Parallax's website, yes, there's something wrong.

    To clarify further.

    My question is

"Can I use press some buttons on my mobile phone (not headset) to get some LEDs controlled by a Basic Stamp II to light up?"
The Basic Stamp II is connected to the Embedded Blue module.

Can I do this without any programming on the mobile phone side?
Which brand of mobile phone is suitable for this type of press button communications?

    Hello,

As stated before, Bluetooth operates using different profiles. It looks like you will need to find a mobile phone that has Serial Port Profile (SPP) support. This will allow the bluetooth connection to emulate a serial connection.

I am an apps engineer specializing in Wireless so I have some experience with Bluetooth modules, specifically BlueGiga: www.semiconductorstore.com/Pages/Items/Bluegiga/casestudies.asp

If you have questions about Bluetooth in general feel free to ask as I have a strong interest in the technology as a whole.

    Hi Brian,

Can you give some examples of which brand and models of mobile phone currently available that has Serial Port Profile (SPP) support?

    Thanks a million.
