Is there a go to I2C time chip?

For a Propeller app I am looking for an I2C chip that can be read in a loop checking the time to run a method if a predetermined time/day is true . I have never used a time chip, but want to extract the day of the week (1-7), hour, and minutes. If day of the week is not an option, I suppose than the software can toggle through the days every 24 hours. The next issue is how to maintain time in power outage to avoid having to reset the time in such an event. Button battery?

Thanks

The DS1307 RTC should work www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/2688

Has anyone tried running this IC on 3v3? The datasheet shows a recommended 4.5V - 5.5V. I run some other devices like the PCF8575 on 3v3 even though it i s recommended 5v. It does appear that below 1.25 x VBAT(3V) access is denied to the RAM and RTC though, so I think this suggests that using the 3v Lithium, a minimum of Vcc=3.75v is required for proper operation. Apparently the SCL and SDA can still be pulled up with the Propeller and board 3v3 and operate just fine.
