transistor + output p0 basic stamp

i want to·switch a transistor·with 1 output on my basic stamp.
sow high p0, transistor open.
but it doesn't swith.
i use a mje3055st, p0 goes to the base of the transistor, collette is connected to my 12V batterie and coil, emmitter is connected to the ground of the bat.
p0 is working, tested with led, but transistor isn't opening...
what am i doing wrong???

You also need a current limiting resistor between P0 and the base of the mje3055st as well as a reverse biased diode across your coil.

have a 12 v baterie with led and resistance as load connected to collete, the ground of the baterie to the emitter.
p0 is on(test with led) but i can't get the transistor to open.....
som thoughts??
