Motor and HB-25 question

Hello all,

I am embarking on a project for a University research and development group and I need to know if the motor set (http://www.parallax.com/desktopmodules/catalookstore/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=507) can be used to the same effect without the HB-25 motor controller (http://www.parallax.com/desktopmodules/catalookstore/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=64). What are the advantages of using the motor controller over not using it? Do you need one HB-25 motor controller for each motor?

To give you some more insight as to what I am doing, I need to control the two motors in the above kit independently of each other based on input GPS data. The end result should point an antenna at a moving to which I am also recieving GPS coordinates.

Thank you for your time!

The motor controllers are not required for operation of the wheel set, they just significantly enhance the operation. With the motor controllers, it allows you to send commands to your wheels (like go forward two meters) and your wheels will travel that distance autonomously without you having to worry about it. If you do go with the HB-25, you need two: one for each motor.
