I am pretty new to designing my own circuits to use with my propeller and I am constantly hitting the problem of not having some common parts around to try my ideas out I would like to get my work shop going and·would like to know: What are some of the most common electronic components that you use and or are generally good to have around?

A complete set (10 of each will do) of 1% metal film 1/4W resistors, and plenty of 100 nF monolithic ceramic capacitors are the most important items.

Not sure what you have but here is my list of top items to keep around...

    Resistors:
    1.1k
    560k
    270k
    10k
    100ohm
    220ohm

    Caps:
    10uf electrolytic

    M/F single row pin headers
    M/F double row pin headers

    Connectors:
    PS2 jacks
    RCA M/F connectors

    LEDs (various)

    Plenty of breadboard wire
(Saves time when soldering up projects or breadboard testing)

You should be able to get just about any component you need from:
    www.digikey.com/
    mouser.com/

My experience - at the end of a project you're always missing one part. Radio Shack carries a good supply of resistors and capacitors. For the other stuff like headers, connectors, LED's and IC's I use Sparkfun. They also carry some inexpensive breakout boards that have come in handy.

I use Futurlec.com for most of my "common" parts. Prices are very reasonable, and the shipping is only $4 for orders up to $29, and $6 for orders up to $49. It takes about a week to get here, however. If you're breadboarding your circuit, I'm ordering some simple PCB's that plug into your breadboard for easy access to the propeller. The board has all the parts needed to run the propeller, already on it. I'm ordering these boards in bulk so If you're interested, PM me to be added to the list. Sorry if this seems spam-ish, but I think for a new propeller user, this sort of thing would eliminate alot of your hassle of wiring the circuit up.

As for parts, OBC and Leon are right. You can never have enough 0.1uF capacitors on hand, and not having the right resistors is just a pain when you have to rig up a series/parallel combination just to meet the right value.
