Help with ExpressPCB

I've started working with ExpressPCB. It happens to have a good price for the basic package of 3 boards and the board size is right for my project. Unfortunately, while looking through the component library, I've noticed that a lot of things are missing. In particular, I'm looking for a PS/2 right angle socket template and a 15-pin VGA video right angle connector. Anybody have component libraries they'd be willing to share? Thanks.

You'll have to create your own parts sooner or later, why not start now? smile.gif

Advanced Circuits uses a version of Number One Systems' Easy-PC, it's a much better program than that available from Express-PCB.

I used it for over 20 years.

Advanced Circuits has changed their schematic/pcb design software to PCB Artist. I use VMWare with Windows XP Home and there's some kind of problem with the Microsoft OCX library when I try to make new components. Their library manager hangs up.

I've looked at Eagle since there's a free version and it runs on the Mac directly, but the libraries are not well organized for me. They have a repository of library files, but they've changed the format and the new version of Eagle won't read many of the old library files.

Mike, maybe inquire on the cadsoft site if there is some means to import or adapt library's. I have not had any cases of not being able to load old Eagle(G4>X11) library's on an iMac with the new Eagle.

PCB Artist is a special version of Easy-PC, although it can't read Easy-PC files and libraries.

Mike, here is a VGA connector I put together. I don't have one in front of me to ensure the pins line up perfect but you can do that by printing one out and placing the connector on it to ensure the holes line up just right. You may need to flip the component to get pin 1 to match the connector.

    With regards,
    Curtis

Wow, Mike asking the question and me answering? Bizzaro world...

I don't have a library for this, but EAGLE comes with a great set of librarys. In addition, futurlec.com has really good pricing for double and single sided boards. They accept your raw EAGLE .brd files if you want to go that route.

    Mike,
Read somewhere you have an Xport module - I have included that and a PS2 connector and vga connector

    Hello all

I see I'm not the only one struggling with Express PCB
I would love a good class lesson on this topic.
It would make a great NUTs&VOLTs article.

I finally got the board ordered. I decided to just make an adapter for the Zilog Z80 SBC that plugs into a Protoboard. I'll post pictures when I get it working. Wow, a full Prop/Z80 implementation in the physical envelope of a Protoboard with the accessory kit (complete with a 1GB micro-SD card) and both VGA and video (40 cols x 13 lines) output.

Thanks for the ExpressPCB parts.· I'll keep them around for a future project.

dedicated to discussions and component sharing..
