USB to 232 / SX-KEY

I am trying to get my SX stuff to work from my laptop that only has USB no 232 Serial ports. I have a USB to 232 hooked up to my Serial SX-Key.. My FTDI assigns Port 18 when I plug in the USB Cable to my computer.. but when I go to program the SX-28 it says that it can't find an SX-KEY on the port I choose. Is there a problem with this setup?

Thanks in Advance,
Eric

    Eric,

What port are you choosing? Port 18? Are you running the latest version of the IDE?

    Thanks,

Yep I'm choosing Port 18. And the Version I believe is the latest... 3.2.92h Beta I'm going to resurrect my old computer to see if I can get it to work there.

What is your target board like? Is it one of the Parallax development boards or something custom that you've created? Also, is the device that you want to program powered and have an adequate power supply? The Serial SX-Key is powered by the target and that needs to be on or it won't find the key.

OK I have an SX48/52 Proto Board... I took my set up to my desktop and it programs perfectly with the serial port.. When I use the USB to Serial on the same computer it says it can't find the SX-Key.

I've upgraded the FTDI drivers to the most current.

Is there a way to test the USB to 232 Device? Maybe it's bad.

I have the same problem with my USB to serial converter.
It works well with some programs, I can program directly a Basic Stamp with it, but I have problems with other hardware. For instance I couldn't program a USB2Bluetooth device even if I was able to connect to it.
The same happens with my SXkey. The key is detected, the chip memory is erased, but it stops somewhere when writing to the device. It stops anywhere during the progress bar, but I cannot get to the end.
Maybe we could open a thread listing working/not working devices?

I had the sam problem, for me it was a matter of changing the serial adapter i was using. i first was using the Sabrent SBT-US1K adapter and i could talk to another serial port with a null modem cable and program basic stamps but the sx key gave me "SX-Key not found on COM " error. I switched to Keyspan's USA=19HS and worked find with no issues .
