Just found a really disturbing flaw in my chimmney for my woodstove. I want a sensor to read CO with. Any reccomendations out there?

Thanks!

    That's not good, be careful.

I've used these COSENSORs·with uControllers http://www.futurlec.com/Gas_Sensors.shtml·, but because you are not prototyping something here I'd look for something·built, there are many. Here is one - http://www.smokesign.com/noname.html

CO detectors are available in many places. Stores that cater to RV and Motor Home owners are good sources. Also pilot shops at airports, which often sell the simplest ones (little amber pills about the size of aspirin tablets, that turn black in the presence of CO). I always keep'em in my vehicles and in the house, and when I could afford to own airplanes I kept them in the cockpit. You should do the same.

Thanks for the links. I do want a sensor as opposed to a detector. What fun is it if you don't build it yourself? :) The sensors on the Futurlec site look great. I'm gonna get a LPG detector too while I'm at it.

Lens, got any details, circuit or code, on using the sensor? Which one did you use, there are two on the page.

Thanks again for the reccomends. The sandbox is so handy!

This sounds like a situation in which you might want to buy a premade one to tide you over while you build another one yourself. I'd hate to see the project only half-completed.

Parallax has a CO sensor in progress. We're finishing our second internal beta test on a new design. It's a simple sensor with trigger/threshold setting and an indicator LED.

Jonathan, you're invited to be a beta tester of this. Send me your shipping information kgracey@parallax.com.

I've used the MQ-7, the orange one they call COSENSOR. I've not used the one they call CO2SENSOR which looks like its in a metal can. There is a link on the Futurlec site with data sheet and pin outs. The circuit is two parts, one is the heating circuit, the second is the signal output. All of these sensors on the Futurlec site look like Fargo (sp) sensors and many on-line parts sellers have them.

I don't have any circuits or code as it was over 10 years ago when I was last working with them. But, it is a simple sensor to use.

That's neat that Parallax will have one of their own. Looking forward to working with one of these.

    Thanks.

Sylvie, the problem has been corrected and I am sure that it is safe now, but thanks very much for the concern. I want one for future monitoring, checking friends systems and such. That way I will find out in the future before it becomes a health issue.

Ken, Thanks! What a knid offer! I'll send you my info right now.

    Lens,

We cross posted, hadn't seen your reply, and thanks. For some reason I can't get the data sheets from Futurlec, they are mostly blank. I'll try again later. Lucky I didn't order one yet though, much more fun to use Parallax's new sensor, I *know* that one will work well and be easy to use. :)
