gun or canon for my robot

I am looking to build a gun or canon n my robot. I have seen the solutions from pob-technology.com regarding there dart gun and have also seen an airsoft gun sitting atop a mobile base. Has anyone ever built some sort of projectile into their robotic application? If so I would like to know what you did and where you got your parts.

Thanks,

Make a coil gun and mount it on the robot.

How about a pneumatic repeater air gun? You could have the compressor on the robot.

There are a number of groups that sail model warships and try to sink each other using bb cannon but others use up to 1/4 inch ball bearings. There is even a thread about using microprocessors to aim the guns, but that leads to the question how well does a ping take a hit from a bb or ball bearing and will it take submersion for 15-30 minutes. most of these folks use compressed CO2 because a compressor runs down batteries very quickly.

Before I give you the reference, let me warn you that this stuff is very addictive! Like you, I asked a question about bb cannon and now my workshop has a collection of balsa, servos, and plans. For a start try this:

I was thinking (if you want to roll your own) that you could make disk of metal, and have it mounted on a motor. The disk has a spiral groove cut into it, big enough for the ammo to roll down. You have a wall around most of the outside, except for a small section. You spin the disk, and drop the ammo into the center part. The spin throws it to the outside, and it hits the wall. It rolls along until the wall disappears, and then flys out. Should be very accurate if you have a constant speed, and it's weak enough that you could start shooting a people.

Presumably without injury? Not if Charles St. George has his way. Weapons designed on this principle can be deadly.

Ah. Interesting. I must say, I hadn't read or seen anything like it before, it was simply a concurrent design principle. Still, my design is slightly different. Their ammunition is stored on the wheel, while my design dropped it into the center. It would decelerate the wheel when you do so (to get the ball up to speed), but I think that's a reasonable trade off to get an unlimited clip size. Anyway, a hobby version could be made small and weak enough to throw arching shots.

    justinrumpf.com,

Here are two links to websites that sell CO2 powered bb cannons:

    http://Battlersconnection.com

    http://BDErc.com

Battlersconnection.com seems to be cheaper and more user friendly than BDErc.com.

Also, if you want to use air instead of CO2, here is a source for small hobby scale air tanks, air control vales, and accessories: http://www.robart.com/air_systems/airkits.aspx

However, you might want to consider using a fully automatic soft air mini-machinegun that fires a 6mm plastic pellet at round 110-130 ft/sec velocity. At close range they can really sting when hitting the skin. I use them to keep skunks off of my property here in North Texas. The cheap ones are around $20 at Walmart, but the better ones are $50-$200 and last much longer.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    TCIII

You need to mount one of these to your Robot platform.
