Hello,

I bought the Scribbler for my kids and· I found it the best way to teach kids about logic.
My question is:

How can i make the scribbler to move one Meter between 2 points?

This question is about Speed, Time and Distance.

Thank you,

Yasser

Yasser: Great question, seems like it would be so simple. Actually, much easier said than done. Scribbler's drive wheels are all open-loop (no encoders), so one wheel has no idea what the other is doing. So it is tough to guarantee that the robot is even driving in a straight line. You can adjust your motor speeds to make it travel as straight as possible, but from my experience, this adjustment varies daily, and whether the robot is "warmed up" or not...

After·you adjust it to go relatively straight, measuring distance is still not possible directly without encoders. The best you can do is experiment with motor speeds for certain time periods (that is, both motors on for n seconds) to make it go a prescribed distance.

I'm a huge Scribbler fan. One of these days I'm going to make some simple encoders for this robot and wire them in place of two of the three photocells, which I never use. It will require opening the robot's case up, but it will drastically increase the usefulness of this otherwise great little robot.
