Since the Propeller has 8 cogs why doesn't it have 8 sides?

It would seem that isolating out each cog to a side would be helpful.

Some days I'm certain my Propeller has a dark side.

    How?

That gives me a great idea - a wireless controlled self-rolling die, with a little cell phone vibrating motor inside. Do we have parts that are small enough yet?

Can you eleaborate on why you think it would be useful? Are you talking about isolating out the pins? The "Cog" is more of an analogy than anything... it's not a real object...

Hmmm, in keeping an analogous them in terms of programming, an octahedral would seem a natural fit for the Propeller.· However even in a 2D octagon layout the chip performance would take a severe hit.· Due to process variations, cogs that are aligned·45 Deg or 90 Deg to other cogs would have enough process variance that they would not perform exactly the same from one cog to the next.· By stepping and repeating the layout,·each cog gets equal process variation alignment, so each cog performs relatively identical…. That’s why you end up with a square or rectangle.

    Scott,

lol - Part of my own crash course while working at National Semiconductor.· Plus I had a good mentor with roots from Harris Semiconductor.

Makes sense. Brings to mind why car engines all have the same length between the carb and the cylinder.

Almost no carbureted engines have equal-length runners, though.· I suppose many modern ones do, but it's not universal, nor even usual.
