Using digital thermometer sensor with the SX chip

I have been trying to find some kind of documentation on how to hook up a digital thermometer temperature sensor to the SX and get a fairly accurate reading and display it on 3 7 segment displays. I can't even seem to find how to hook it and and get a reading from it. It is not a chip, it is a simple metal tip that has 2 wires coming from it. If anyone can help me get this started, I would greatly appreciate it!

The sensor you have is likely a thermocouple. You will need a thermocouple amplifier such the AD595AQ. You can then use the SX's ANALOGIN command to read the AD595AQ's voltage through a simple circuit.

If the sensor is just a thermistor, you can connect it directly to a sigma-delta ADC (a simple RC network) and read its resistance using the SX's RCTIME command.

ok, say it is a thermistor. how would I hook it up to the chip to get a steady reading off of it? I am messing with the RCTIME command and am getting extremely random numbers from it :(

Study the RCTIME command in the SX/B help file. It includes example circuits that you can use...
