Using PCI graphics card with propeller?

Has anyone messed with connecting the propeller to a standard pci graphics card for better graphics output? Is it feasable to do this or is this madness just to speak of it?

Thanks

Jason

    Hello sccoupe,

I'm not familiar with the PCI-Bus. I guess which means I don't kow exactly
but simply from the number of Pins a PCI-slot has and the speedrequirements
I guess it will be much easier to use a micro-PC-motherboard than a Propeller
with a graphic-card. For parallel reaction on different sensors it still might be useful
to use a propeller and send graphical data across a serial connection with 115200 Baud to the micro-PC
or to use two Propeller-Chips. One simply for 1024X768 Graphics and the other prop for the rest.

    best regards

    Stefan

PCI is rather tricky - it's fast and the PCB tracks need to be the same length. FPGAs are often used for interfaces to plug into a PC. I wouldn't bother.

If not PCI, what about ISA?· There must be some basic text commands that are common to all cards in order to show the BIOS startup.· I have event seen some logos using graphics.· I realise anything 3D would probably depend on the card.

ISA would be easy. I remember seeing 8-bit MCUs interfaced to ISA cards.

Biggest trick here might be locating working cards. :)

Depending on what you want to accomplish it may be easier to use the prop counters/video generators to drive an external video circuit. A 4Mhz Z80 and 2Kx8 ram chip were used to generate an 80x24 text display. Something along that line could be done with a register/counter and a ram chip.
