embedded RFID tag Am I crazy!

embedded RFID tags am I crazy, or would it be cool to have one.

I "Stumbled Upon" a conspiracy video on youtube that talked about Big Brother and RFID tags 666 yada yada yada... they showed putting a tag in the muscly part of the hand in between the thumb and index finger. they made it sound like the end of the world. I was thinking Dang! I want one!!! Don't get me wrong I'm against Big brother spying, tracking whatever... but how cool would it be to set up RFID readers in your house, it would cost a bit but what if you had 2 readers on ever door, or how about the door to your bedroom, you could then automate things to happen based on weather you were coming or going, (which side of the door reads the tag). you walk in the lights come on, blinds open (if it's not dark) music, heat, etc....
The possibilities are endless, so yes just to clarify, I'm not going to get an RFID implant (at least for now), but what can I do to get the same results. no I don't want to carry an RFID tag with me all the time, I'll forget it, put it in the wrong pocket or lose it. and I'm not going to grab an RFID tag for the early morning nature calls, just so the light turns on automatically. nor could I expect my kids to carry one and not lose it for more than a few hours. so besides carrying a tag, anyone have any other thoughts? and to be a little specific, I want to at least be able to tell who has entered a room and not just that it's occupied.

I thought about having cameras and use face recognition software (not as hard as it sounds) but this would be more difficult to implement, besides cost a lot more. and no matter what amount of assurance I gave my wife the cameras were secure, would I be able to convince her to let me put cameras all over our house and particularity in bedrooms.

any thoughts? perhaps an embedded tag isn't so crazy!

It's been done. There are RFID tags used in non-human animals all the time. There was someone who had one inserted as a demonstration with the intent of installing sensors throughout their house. There was all kinds of media coverage at the time. I don't know how that project worked out. This was several years ago.

my dog has one, and if I had a fenced yard I'd automate a doggy door for him. I'll have to do a bit of googeling to see if I can find out any info on the project you mentioned.

oops meant for this to be in the sandbox!

    Moving to Sandbox...

On the RFID Read product page there is a video from someone who had a tag implanted under his skin. He shows using it to open a door lock.

You don't have to have the tag embedded in order to get all the cool things you talked about. At least not until you worked out all of the kinks in the system. I wear and RFID·tag all day where I work (employee badge). it is used to unlock doors based on a personalized access profile.

You are referring to Amal Graafstra. www.amal.net/rfid.html Lots of info on his site and he wrote a pretty decent book called RFID Toys. Since I first saw his site, etc a year ago, I have wanted to get one in my hand.

wikipedia has a good article on it and a little info on human implants. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rfid_tag

Injecting one seems a little dangerous to me.
I would recommend putting it in a ring of some sort that you wear all the time.
