Anyone ever use Ni-Zn rechargeable batteries ? 1.6V per cell.

I was just shopping and I saw these new rechargeable batteries that are Ni-Zn. I think the brand name was "Power Z".
They were 1.6V per cell and 2500mAh for AA size, priced at $14.99 for 4 AA.

I almost got them, but I thought I would see what other people thought of them first.

Sounds like a nice way to regulate to 5V from 4 AA cells (4 would be 6.4 volts).

Bean.

I would say go for it. The new zinc batteries are getting a lot of press these days, more so with the renewable energy thing. They are easier to recycle and safer than lithium, not to mention they last a lot longer. Can you provide a link to the source, i have only seen them in coin cell format for consumer use so far.

Like I said I couldn't find anything on the web.

I saw them in Boscovs in NE Pa. I wish I would have bought them now...

    Bean,

I'd be interested to see how they compare to LiFePO4's or other Lithium variants such as Li-Poly.

Do you know anything about their charge/discharge characteristics? I'm guessing not since you haven't found much on them outside of the store.

    Beau,
If you want, I'd be willing to buy them tomorrow and ship them to you on Monday.
Just say the word...I mean send me a PM with the address. Call it an early/late birthday present.

    Bean,

I PM'd you on some details... I found this for information on the charge characteristics of these batteries...

It's funny that you post this... I'm currently looking at some LiFePO4, and some Li-Poly for an application. The 3.7V of the two batteries seem like a perfect fit for the Propeller.

At 1.65V per cell with the NiZn batteries, this also seems like a good fit for the Propeller. The Discharge curve even at .5C looks very steady, but then drops off of a "cliff" toward the end..
