I· was curious as to WHY IS A 10uS PULSE USED IN THE ULTRASOUND SENSOR CODE?

    Read the documentation on the PING))). You'll see that the minimum width of the pulse is 2us, a typical width is given as 5us, and some of the sample code for the Stamp uses 10us, probably because it's a nice round number greater than 5us (the units for the PULSOUT statement are 2us, so you want a multiple of that). There's no published maximum width for this pulse.
