I understand all this. I have 2 of the Parallax versions. I'm looking to embed the MLX on my own custom board which is BS2PE based, which is why I'd like native code (SMBUS). Any thoughts?
Stan, to talk to the sensor from any BASIC Stamp, including a BS2PE you would use the example code Josh mentioned. To talk to the sensor using an SX or Propeller using SMBUS you would need to refer to the sensor's datasheet for a command listing and protocol specification. Take care.

There is sample code available from the product page on our web site, as well as documentation. Depending on the BASIC Stamp used, you might have to change the value for the baud rate used. There is a nice table with the different baud rate values for the various stamps in the BASIC Stamp Syntax & Reference Manual·(page 419).
