Problem using RS-I Serial Interface Adapter

I'm using a BS2 to output ASCII text using SEROUT commands.· It works fine when connected to a PC but it doesn't work for the hardware that I need it to. I suspect the hardware requires the proper RS232 levels.· So I've got an RS-I interface, I'm feeding it +5V and GND (from the Stamp Super Carrier board) and I'm feeding the output of the STAMP's serial port to the T & R pins of the RS-I.· Trouble is that I don't get any output to the PC when I'm testing it.·

When I loopback the T & R pins of the RS-I, I do get characters echo'd back on my PC screen so I know that the RS-I is working properly.

Any guesses?

I would check polarity, as an initial step in troubleshooting. Not familiar with the RS-1, but does it invert the levels? At the Stamp outputs the 1 is more positive than the 0, but in RS-232 it's the other way 'round. Obviously this may not be it, but it's easy to check and it could easily be the cause.
