Best choice for the job? 16 I/O + 57K serial

I have an application in mind, but I have a couple requirements that I think steer me towards the larger propeller chips as the only solution.· Specifically, I need 57K baud·serial port (it'll be on RS485 with other devices that run at 57K - can't change that) and beyond the serial, I need 16 fully available output pins.

I'd like to use something like the Stamp Controller interface board, since my 16 outputs will connect to an OPTO-22 compatible bank of SSRs, but everything I've read says that the BS2 modules are limited to 9600 or 19200 baud.

What would you use?

I'd use the Propeller regardless. The fact that it has 8 cores and can do parallel processing is an added bonus. Plus it's pretty easy to program.

I must admit, as an old-time bit banger, the 8-core propeller is pretty interesting.· That's definitely the way I'm leaning - still more stuff to read though.· Thanks for the input.

In my limited playing around with the Propeller so far, I'd say in comparison with a Stamp, it's harder to do the easy stuff, and WAY easier to do the hard stuff on a Propeller.

Oh, and the Prop Plug is the Daily Deal: $15 instead of the usual $25. Great time to jump in.
