If I connect an ADC to a BS2, which has a PIC16C57C as its main circuit, can it be CMOS?·
Parallax sells an ADC0831, which has multiplex. capabilities,·for use with the basic stamps.·
I found another similar adc, ADC08831IN-ND,(CMOS,MULTIPLEXER OPTIONS,SAMPLE-HOLD)· It has multiplex. plus sample and hold and is stated as being CMOS.· But it has the same pin connections as the adc0831.· Could that be used with a basic stamp BS2?

READ THE DATASHEET! It says that the ADC08831 is a pin compatible replacement for the ADC0831

Most digital chips (and the digital portion of mixed analog-digital chips) are built with CMOS transistors and are considered CMOS devices (complementary metal oxide semiconductor). An older form of integrated logic was TTL (transistor transistor logic). These differed in the voltage levels used for defining logic low and logic high although there was overlap. Modern CMOS logic is generally built to respond to either TTL or CMOS logic levels and will produce output that will properly trigger both CMOS and TTL circuits. Read the Wikipedia for explanations of TTL and CMOS logic and the voltage levels involved.

    Thanks, Mike.
I don't actually have in my possesion an ADC08831, but read that they are listed for sale by Digi-Key and are made by National Semiconductors. D-K doesn't have NC's ADC08831, but they do have those made by Texas Instrmt., so I ordered one of those.
I read the ADC08831 data sheet by internet, and tried to compare it to the ADC0831, in the same manner, and found that the pins, etc, are the same, but decided to go with TI's ADC0831 instead, even though they are a few cents more.
