getting SX Key not found error

I'm getting error "SX Key not found on COM4" when I try to program/run my SX Tech board.
Configuration:·
windows Vista home premium 32 bit service pack 1;
Parallax USB to 232 Rev B (C) 2005;
SX-Key Rev F;
SX Tech 2004-1999;
SX28AC/DP-G· 0720;
Assembler: SX-Key v3.2.3;
Setup-SX-Key-Editor-v3.2.3lg;
(or 3.2.9h-beta--see below)
It had been running on XP before I switched to Vista.
I tried installing:
USBDriverInstallerV2.04.06
but got error "this program might not have installed correctly"
and I still got the "not found" errorl
Then I tried installing:
USBDriverInstallerV2.0.0 which I had used under XP.
It seemed to install OK, but gave the same "not found" error.
The Windows System Device list shows
"Ports (COM & LPT) / USB Serial Port (COM4)"
when the Key is plugged in,
and There IS a COM4 radio button, checked, in the IDE Serial Port panel on the Run Configuration screen in the SX-Key software,
but I still get the "SX-Key not found on COM4" error when I try to run, program, or debug.
Finally, I tried installing
Setup-SX-Key-Editor-v3.2.92h-BETA.exe
it said it was installing USB drivers,
but the Windows System device listing show the COM4 driver as:
Provider:FTDI; Date: 5/19/2006; Version: 2.0.0.0;
That gave the same error, even after re-installing USBDriverInstallerV2.04.06.
I am still getting the same error message, and have run out of ideas of things to try.
Any suggestions?

    Has this ever worked or did it just break when going to Vista?

    Joe,
    · The SX-Key serial version gets it's power from the development board. Unlike the USB version that gets power from the PC USB port.

    · Make sure you have it plugged into a development board with a good SX chip and powered up. Otherwise it will say "Not found".

    Other than that, I would try removing the COM port from device manager and letting your system re-install it.

    Bean.

    Go Back to XP:Vista thinks were a bunch of HACKERS because it see's USB in A diff. light....You can make it work w/ Vista,,But why take all that Agerv... That and XP runs faster??????????

    HP,LexMark, and few other Spooler drivers/ along w/ the BloutWare they Add will tie up the USB ports...W/ XP You have better control of this....Vista looks at this as "AUTO UPDATES",,,Not Good

    You'll eventually get the Drivers loaded and working,,Untill You add some more,Or get·A "WindowsUpdate"

    But I Have to admit,The Chess game is cool

    I've always had to use my virtual machine with XP on it to use the serial SX-Key. Vista was very finicky and would hardly ever program a chip using the old Key. The USB SX-Key, on the other hand, works very well. It's instantly recognized and programs chips every time without problems.

    I had trouble with my Blitz because my power supply was wheezing.· No further troubles with a heftier supply.
