I was just googling to find a battery backup vircuit, and ran across this semi online book "The Art of Electronics" by Paul Horowitz. This looks like a great resource for guys starting out in electronics, so I thought I'd link it. There are tons of circuit ideas, and explanations of just about anything you can think of regarding basic electronics.

This book is an absolute requirement for anyone venturing into electronics. I bought mine about 20 years ago and still refer to its dog-eared pages.

Good recommendation Originator. Just about every Electrical engineering professor I had in college also recommended this book. The only question remains, why haven't I purchased it yet? I have no good answer.

It's a great book, but a little dated.
There was a rumor of a new updated revision, but it never appeared.

The datedness is seriously not an issue for me. (I don't even have the second edition.) Ohm's Law hasn't changed, the Miller Effect is still with us, and transistor and op amp fundmentals are still as sound as they were twenty years ago. The newest digital stuff is missing, certainly, but that can be picked up from other references.

H&H have been working on the third edition for years. They have a problem with the accelerating progress of technology - they are trying to keep up with the latest developments but it's a moving target.
