Yes the NES connector fits the Protoboard...

...if...
(1) You push the pins out of the NES connector (from the rear)
(2) Get a tiny drill bit, and using the empty connector as a guide, carefully drill new holes.
{I used a #56, but it was a tiny bit small, might try one size bigger}
(3) Push the pins through the bottom of the protoboard into the bottom of the connector.
(4) Once everything is soldered up, use a dab of hot glue between the bottom of the NES
connector and the board and press it down into place.
Requires time and patience, works perfectly. Looks great on the Protoboard.
I'll get a picture of it tomorrow, don't have a camera handy.
