Hardware hacker heads-up
Not much connection to Parallax products I'm afraid, but I know this is a good place for hardware hackers, and you might be interested in a bit of bargain consumer electronics I found today.
It's a Sitecom MD-011 Mobile data copier. I found it in Maplin (UK) for 5 quid, but it seems to be generally available at that sort of price or even less. It copies the contents of memory cards (memory stick, SD, CF) to USB sticks, and also acts as a memory card reader. It's presumably cheap because it's only USB 1.1, but still has a fine collection of bits inside it.
There is :
CY7C67300 USB OTG controller (I believe this can be reprogrammed over USB)
CY7c1021 64k x 16 sram
39vf080 8Mbit flash
nd3260 memory card reader / controller
LCD - looks like about 64x128
CF socket
multi-memory-card socket
2 type A USB sockets
1 mini USB type-B socket
PSU to power the device from USB or 3xAAA
All in a handheld case with 5 buttons (+ reset, I think), easy to open, no epoxy-covered chips or bond-out stuff.
There's got to be a use for this thing - but if anybody knows of something similar that can do USB high speed, I'm, sure I could find a use for that too.

Nothing with any technical content, but as Rusty says there are plenty of sales pitches.
The first couple on google claim it's USB 2.0 at 480Mb/s but I think this is a lie aka marketing-speak : it's advertised as 'USB 2.0 compatible' which means only that it will work with a USB 2.0 host. The logo on the box has the blue OTG stripe under the USB logo but not the red high-speed stripe above it, and I think that Cypress chip only does full-speed 12Mb/s. I had hoped it was real USB 2 when I bought it - I've been after some cheap USB 2 experimenting kit - but I still think it's worth playing with for the price.
