i have been trying to come up with a way to build a universal remote that will control all of my stuff because the ones you buy at the store won't work on everything, does·anyone have any thoughts on the best way to start on this project might be?

Just so you know, Universal remotes do NOT control the Universe.

    I tried it.

Radio Shack has a learning remote for $280 at http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3237007· Who's gonna buy that? The IR for the Boe Bot Text has great info on IR coding for the Sony protocol, and the Stamp can read those codes easily enough. All the new HD TVs and home theaters have new formats now, so it's not clear if they are sending data faster than the Stamp can keep up with, or if they are using a·56 kHz IR carrier instead of the older 38 kHz standard.

Please keep us posted on anything you find out.

This thread is not BASIC Stamp related and is being moved to the Sandbox.

I don't recall the model number, but my Sony universal remote has a learning capability and I picked it up at Walmart for $25. It controls everything in my entertainment center that's made by Denon, Samsung, Sony, RCA, GE and even my 14 year old Phillips professional series receiver/amplifier/surround sound processor.
