It's working now!!! Doh, I put a switch on the dang thing and had it off during all the testing with the diode circuit. So, it is working with the diode circuit now! Thanks Phil!!! I was going to put an external clock on, but now I don't have to.

If you're still using a nominal 9600 baud with your internal oscillator, I'd up it to 14400 baud for maximum margins, in case the baudrate should drift.
Thanks for the tip, I'll get that incorporated. Next thing is to figure out what diddy I want it to play and incorporate it into my actual circuit. I'm very excited it has started working, it is going to give my project a whole other dimension.
