Propeller Heads:
I need help I am trying to work through the Counter-lab section on IR detect
I built the circuit on the protoboard and loaded the software into the the propeller and opened up hyperterminal to see the results but I see nothing. Not sure of the instructions below from the lab ?
What is PropellerCOM.ht?
Any help would be appreaciated
Thanks
tom

? Make sure PropellerCOM.ht is open but disconnected.
? Load IrObjectDetection.spin into the Propeller chip.
? Connect PropellerCOM.
? The state should be 1 with no obstacles visible, or 0 when you place your hand in front of the

IR LED/receiver.

It's a Hyperterminal file. Just double-click on it to run the program.

    Hi Tom,

You are probably working from v0.81. I just posted v1.0 and recommend updating. It's available from the PE Kit Labs page.

    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=617192

This lab eliminates HyperTerminal, which is no longer always free, and instead uses the Parallax Serial Terminal. It's got some additional material and full questions/exercises/projects and solutions.

    Andy,

Have any other labs been updated recently? (Besides the brand new ViewPort lab.)

I was just going to go through a few of them.

    Regards,
    Keith

    Keith,

Yes, the Objects lab was updated to use the Parallax Serial Terminal instead of HyperTerminal for Propeller <--> PC text communication. The Parallax Serial Terminal is easier to use, and free.

I also just posted information on updates to the Counter Modules and Circuit Applications lab.

The latest PE Kit Labs are always available from the Propeller Education Kit Labs page.

    Regards, Andy

    Tom P,

The first thing that always comes to my mind, especially with an IR LED, or just LED's in general·is making sure that you have the correct polarity either on the IR LED itself or the Detector.

I found out that I can see the IR LEDs on my digital camera. It helps to make sure that they're actually on...

    Tom P,

Parallax Serial Terminal is in a folder in the v1.0 zip of the Counter Modules and Circuit Applications (Counters) lab. Instructions on using Parallax Serial Terminal are in the Objects lab starting on page 13.

In a related thread, SRLM pointed out that there is an error in the IR detector schematic in Counters v0.8,·and that it has been corrected·in v1.0. So·please do·download the Counters v1.0 and double check your circuit.
