concerns with using button as bump sensor

Basically my school let me check out a boe-bot so I can learn PBASIC in time for southeastcon. I have no sensors for it or for that matter resistors etc. My question is if I use a power button ripped out of an old computer case will I have to add any resistors to keep from blowing up the board/chip or will it function fine as a standalone input device.

    You'll want to follow all the circuits in the book. If you don't have resistors, you'll want to get some.

    ok then. I was also thinking of making it run opposite of the book by jumping directly from Px to vss. that would make +x volts(the book doesn't specify the standard high) depressed.
